The Bay of Pigs memorial in Little Havana, Miami was erected by Cuban exiles to commemorate “los martires de la Brigada de Asalto, 2506” (the martyrs of Assault Brigade, 2506) who were killed during the CIA backed invasion of Cuba, April 1961.
The Torch of Friendship Memorial on Biscayne Boulevard was “dedicated by the city of Miami to the everlasting friendship of our neighboring countries, 1960”. On a stone wall behind the torch are plaques representing different countries, namely; Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. At the north end of the wall is an additional dedication to the memory of John F. Kennedy, January 1964.
