The Hunters (2010)
climbing ropes, maple wood pegs.
The Hunters is an installation of lengths of climbing rope hung off two kinds of maple wood pegs . The ropes are made into four coils, four head pieces and four weapons. The ropes are hung at a height which owes as much to an idea of usage as it does to display – that is to say they are hung so as to imply one might reach up and take one away. This implication of action is also in the rope itself. This is climbing rope, not sash cord or mooring line. The weave of these ropes is dense and their finish toughened as required by their foreseen function. If it looks like the kind of thing you need for some serious endeavour that’s because it is. Suggestive of the kit room of a rescue team or a group of assassins it presents the kind of threat that sits somewhere between vigilantism and ritualised psychosis.
