Neues Lager near Jüterbog was home to one of the largest soviet military barracks in Germany. It housed approximately 40,000 soldiers as well as a large stock of military equipment. In 1994, a few years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was abandoned by the Russian Army. It has since been allowed to fall into disrepair and the land is slowly returning to its natural state.
