Patria et Honor is the motto of the Romanian Border Police. In 2016 we undertook a research trip to Romania to look at artefacts produced by the Cucuteni–Trypillia culture, a neolithic civilisation who are remembered for their advanced ceramics and their habit of deliberately burning down their dwellings at regular intervals.

The trip from Bucharest to Iasi in the north of Romania took us along the Prut River, which is effectively the eastern border of the European Union. We saw a lot of Border Police along they way and PATRIA ET HONOR, as well as other works that later became part of Kino Innovatief, were direct responses to our time there.
